Gears of War: E-Day Won’t Be Available on PS5
It seems that the “return of Xbox” signals a shift away from other platforms. During the recent Xbox Games Showcase, Microsoft announced that Gears of War: E-Day, which had been speculated to launch on PS5 alongside Xbox and PC, will now be an Xbox console exclusive, set to release on October 6th.
The reveal was accompanied by an action-packed trailer showcasing an alien invasion from a street-level perspective, featuring intense battles in an urban setting complete with an electronics store and grocery shop. Fans were treated to classic Gears gameplay, filled with blood and cover mechanics. Notably, we also caught a glimpse of a Gears soldier sporting casual blue jeans, adding a fresh touch to the character design.
Last year, the Gears franchise made its PlayStation debut with the Gears of War: Reloaded remake, part of Microsoft’s broader multiplatform approach. However, following a significant leadership change with Asha Sharma stepping in as the new CEO, there have been clear indications of a pivot back to Xbox exclusives—something that many fans have been eagerly anticipating. Today’s announcement about E-Day marks a definitive move in that direction.
Correction: An earlier version of this story mistakenly stated that E-Day was initially announced for the PS5; it was actually a long-standing rumor.
