Geekbench 7: Elevate Your Device’s Performance for Enhanced Benchmarking

Primate Labs is launching Geekbench 7, the latest iteration of its well-known benchmarking tool. This version introduces new video and audio encoding/decoding tests, a revamped multi-core test, and larger, more challenging datasets for CPUs and GPUs to tackle. While it retains the familiar look and feel of Geekbench 6, the Pro license remains priced at $99, currently available for $79 until August 6.

With a Geekbench 7 Pro license, users can perform offline benchmarking that won’t be uploaded to the Geekbench Browser, and it supports all compatible desktop platforms, including Windows, macOS, and Linux.

Geekbench has long been a staple in our laptop reviews. Its simplicity and speed make it easy to run, but its brief testing duration means it’s better suited for measuring quick bursts of performance rather than sustained loads, which can cause some CPUs and GPUs to throttle. For instance, one test involves rendering a 1.5MB PDF file, which most modern processors can handle almost instantaneously.

Primate Labs asserts that Geekbench 7 employs “more demanding data sets to more accurately capture the hardware demands of modern applications.” The new audio and video tests now incorporate AV1, Opus, and workloads related to video conferencing, streaming, and content consumption. Additionally, the multi-core benchmarks are designed to better mirror real-world software behavior, as the new workloads will only run multi-threaded when the tasks are modeled that way.

These enhancements appear to be significant improvements, even though Geekbench 7 tests still only take a few minutes to complete. Scores from Geekbench 6 are not compatible with Geekbench 7, so if you enjoy testing, get ready to dive into a fresh round of benchmarking and retesting. Always be testing.
