Genshin Impact’s latest update tackles the Trump Reflecting Pool controversy.

It looks like President Donald Trump has found himself another unexpected critic: the developers of Genshin Impact, miHoYo. The recent 7.0 update for the game introduced a wealth of new content, including the highly anticipated final region, Snezhnaya. However, players quickly discovered an in-game bulletin board post that takes a not-so-subtle jab at Trump’s recent Reflecting Pool controversy.

The bulletin is penned by Grand Duke Diomid Turzov, who is frustrated with imaginary vandals that “defaced” his grand fountain by peeling off its paint. In truth, the damage stems from his own poor decisions.

“I built a fountain. It is enormous. Without question, it is the most beautiful fountain in all of Snezhnaya. Maybe even the most beautiful in all of Teyvat,” the Grand Duke declares, a statement that echoes Trump’s own style. After noticing that jellyfish-like creatures called Tigalda had contaminated the fountain’s water, he decided to “paint the bottom with beautiful, bright paint. After that, it looked incredible. So incredible!” But there’s a catch: the paint attracted even more Tigalda.

To remedy this self-inflicted issue, he “poured a huge amount of bleach into the fountain, and it became clean again. I won. A historic victory, like no one’s ever seen!” Naturally, the excess bleach caused the paint to peel. The Duke responded, “It’s obviously fake news. Totally fake,” claiming that “thugs from Rokot” are “sneaking into the manor at night and tearing the paint off with their filthy hands! Embarrassing. So embarrassing!” The bulletin wraps up with the Duke stating he’ll hire “the biggest, toughest, strongest warriors money can buy” to protect his fountain.

Beyond the Duke’s speech patterns hinting at a Trump parody, the details reference the President’s mishandling of the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool repairs. To summarize that tangled saga, the Reflecting Pool has become increasingly murky due to algae blooms, stemming from leaky pipes and poor water treatment. Instead of tackling the underlying issues, Trump opted for a quick fix, hiring a company owned by one of his donors to paint the pool’s surface blue and reseal it. The project was initially estimated to cost $1.5 to $2 million but ballooned to around $14 to $16 million.

Once the project was “finished,” the algae returned, and the new paint began to peel and bubble. Shortly thereafter, the administration sought a scapegoat for the peeling paint. Former Olympian David Hearn was arrested and charged with property destruction, with Trump lamenting, “We had vandalism… it’s a sad thing.” However, a judge dismissed the case, stating that the alleged sabotage was actually due to a “botched installation” of the paint.

This isn’t the first time Genshin Impact has poked fun at Trump. In the Fontaine region, there’s a book titled “The Art of Negotiation,” a nod to Trump’s The Art of the Deal, featuring lines like, “The most powerful weapon in a negotiation is the truth, and the truth can be manipulated.” It seems art truly imitates life.

Snezhnaya is on the way…
