Get Ready for a New Way to Enjoy Xbox Games Without Needing an Xbox Console

Microsoft has teamed up with Hisense to bring the Xbox app to TVs powered by the V operating system (formerly known as VIDAA). This means gamers will soon have the ability to enjoy Xbox titles on their Hisense TVs without needing a physical console. Thanks to Xbox Cloud Gaming, which is part of Game Pass Essential, Premium, and Ultimate, your Hisense TV will effectively transform into an Xbox.

Microsoft stated, “Our vision is to ensure your games, your community, and your achievements are always within reach. Bringing the Xbox app to select Hisense and V homeOS-powered TVs is another step toward making gaming accessible across a wide range of devices, meeting you wherever you want to play.” However, don’t expect this feature to roll out immediately; Microsoft plans to provide more details on how it will work “in the coming months,” so stay tuned for updates.

Hisense TVs are the latest addition to the list of devices supporting the Xbox app, following Samsung’s integration back in 2022, which allowed users to stream games directly to their TVs. This initiative is part of Microsoft’s broader strategy to expand the Xbox audience beyond traditional consoles, encapsulated in their tagline, “This is an Xbox.”

In 2020, Phil Spencer, CEO of Microsoft Gaming, emphasized that the goal is to increase the number of players engaging with Xbox, clarifying that “playing on Xbox” doesn’t necessarily mean using a dedicated console. It could involve logging in and playing through various platforms, including Android phones, Switch, or PCs.

Game consoles typically don’t generate significant profits, and when they do, it’s minimal compared to the more profitable games and services. This is why Microsoft is heavily promoting Xbox Game Pass, as growing the subscriber base provides a steady and reliable revenue stream.
