Get Ready for Two New Cuphead Games, Including an 8-Bit Platform Shooter!

Studio MDHR showcased some puppetry at Summer Game Fest, revealing that they’re working on not one, but two new Cuphead games, with one of them being a bit of a surprise.

The first game announced is simply described as “a new, hand-animated Cuphead.” There’s no title or release date yet, and details are scarce. It seems like development might have just kicked off, so we may be waiting a while for more information.

The second title is called Mighty Cuphead Adventure, an 8-bit platform shooter that appears to echo the original Cuphead, featuring familiar bosses and the beloved duo, Cuphead and Mugman. According to a press release, Mighty Cuphead Adventure pays homage to ’80s gaming, crafted using classic Assembly Language and designed to fit the Sega Master System’s specifications. While it will be available on modern consoles and PC, a physical cartridge for the Sega Master System will also be released for those who still have the old-school console. No release date has been provided for this one either, but more updates are expected in the coming months.

Fans have been curious about Studio MDHR’s next steps since the original Cuphead launched in 2017, followed by several ports and a major DLC expansion titled The Delicious Last Course, which came out in 2022. All of these were met with acclaim for their hand-drawn animation and dedication to a classic ’30s art style and sound. The franchise even expanded into a TV show, The Cuphead Show!, which premiered in 2022.
