God of War Laufey Sparks Hilarious Memes in Under 24 Hours
It’s been less than a day since the announcement of God of War Laufey, and already, the gaming community has spun one of the funniest jokes in the series’ 21-year history. With just 20 minutes of footage revealed for the upcoming PS5 title, the news that Laufey will run parallel to the 2018 Norse-themed reboot has added a humorous twist to some of the more serious moments from both that game and its sequel, Ragnarok.
Looking back, 2018’s God of War is quite a somber experience. The stoic god of war, Kratos, isn’t one for chatter, and his son Atreus is so intimidated by him that he hardly speaks. Throughout their journey to scatter the ashes of Faye, they often reflect on her death, which has driven them to this quest. Their memories of her create touching moments where they find solace in the fact that she can finally rest.
However, it turns out Faye isn’t resting at all. In God of War Laufey, it’s revealed that she has ended up in a realm called the Everywhen, where all gods and magical beings go after death. This afterlife isn’t a peaceful retreat; instead, Faye finds herself battling new gods and monsters. Rather than lounging in eternal bliss, she seems to be aiding Kratos and Atreus from the afterlife during the events of God of War and Ragnarok. This twist has sparked a wave of speculation among fans and led to some hilarious jokes within the community.
When the full game drops, I can’t wait to see a montage where every time Kratos and Atreus mourn for Laufey, it cuts to her juggling demons to heavy metal music.

This is usually where I’d say “Faye is fighting for her life in these streets,” but since she’s dead, she’s actually fighting for the lives of her husband and son. While players have made some amusing connections between the games, I’m genuinely interested to see how Laufey fills in the gaps in Kratos and Atreus’ journeys and how it all concludes. Faye doesn’t reunite with her family through any magical means at the end of Ragnarok, and it would be a disservice to the narrative if she did so in Laufey. Hopefully, the studio isn’t planning a big, happy family reunion to wrap things up. We’ll have to wait for the game’s eventual PS5 release to see how it all unfolds.
