Godzilla x Kong sequel could introduce an unexpected adversary: SpaceGodzilla.
It seems that Godzilla x Kong: Supernova is set to introduce a new adversary for the iconic kaiju after more than thirty years: SpaceGodzilla.
A listing in the Writers Guild of America West directory for a project titled ‘Zeus’ mentions, “Based on the characters ‘Godzilla’ and ‘Space Godzilla’ owned and created by Toho Co., LTD.”
SpaceGodzilla, a mutated clone of Godzilla, made its debut in the 1994 film Godzilla vs. SpaceGodzilla. Since then, this kaiju has appeared in various video games, comics, and TV shows, but Godzilla x Kong: Supernova marks its first return to the big screen in over three decades and its inaugural appearance in a Hollywood production.
This formidable foe is not only larger and more muscular than Godzilla but also features a longer tail and tusks. Its tail is adorned with crystals that absorb energy from the surrounding environment, fueling its power. In the ’90s film, SpaceGodzilla was born when G-cells were launched into space, fell into a black hole, and then reemerged from a white hole (let’s just say it’s a wild concept—who wouldn’t want to see Godzilla in space?).
Directed by Grant Sputore, Godzilla x Kong: Supernova will see Dan Stevens reprise his role as Trapper Beasley, joining a fresh cast that includes Kaitlyn Dever, Delroy Lindo, Sam Neill, Jack O’Connell, Matthew Modine, and Alycia Debnam-Carey.
The screenplay is penned by Michael Lloyd Green and David Callaham, who previously contributed to projects like Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings and Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse.
Mark your calendars for the theatrical release of Godzilla x Kong: Supernova on March 26, 2027.
