Google TV Introduces New Row for YouTube Shorts
Google is streamlining access to YouTube Shorts on its TV devices, allowing users to dive into content without needing to launch the dedicated app. Soon, the Google TV homepage will feature a new section titled “Short videos for you,” showcasing a curated feed of personalized videos.
This update is set to roll out to Google TV devices in the US this summer, although an exact date hasn’t been provided. The initial content in this new feature will focus on YouTube Shorts, hinting that other vertical video platforms like TikTok and Instagram’s Reels might be integrated in the future.
The announcement of the short video row coincides with other enhancements for Google TV, including the introduction of Google’s Nano Banana generative AI image model and the Veo video generator through the Gemini tab. Additionally, Google Photos will receive new Search and Remix features, enabling users to search for specific images using voice commands and transform them into various artistic styles, such as watercolor or oil painting.
Currently, these features are exclusive to Gemini-enabled devices in the US. However, a Dynamic Slideshow option will be available worldwide, allowing users to set any Google Photos album as a screensaver when their TV is not in use.
