Google unveils new icons for its revamped Workspace app.

The Google Workspace apps are undergoing a visual transformation. The newly redesigned app icons, which were leaked last month, are now being rolled out widely, and many users are starting to notice the changes. The updated icons feature a gradient design that transitions from lighter to darker shades, moving away from the previous flat appearance, much like the revamped Google logo introduced last year.

Some icons have shifted from a rainbow palette to a more uniform color scheme, such as Google Chat, Meet, and Calendar. This change may help differentiate the icons from one another, though it could also make them less recognizable. Meanwhile, icons like Google Docs, Sheets, and Slides have retained their original colors and overall style. However, as noted by a Reddit user, the Sheets and Slides icons have been rotated to landscape mode, reflecting how most users typically engage with those applications.

The Google Drive icon has received a notable redesign, featuring rounded corners and omitting the red spot that used to be in the bottom right corner. Additionally, some icons, like Google Keep, have lost their borders; Keep is now represented simply as a yellow light bulb instead of a bulb on a yellow rectangle. As a frequent user of Keep, I’ll need some time to adjust to the new icon shape, but I do appreciate its fresh look. The Gmail icon has also been updated, presenting a cleaner aesthetic while maintaining much of its original design.

These new icons are making their debut just ahead of Google I/O, which kicks off on Tuesday, where further visual updates to the Google ecosystem may be revealed.
