Grab a classic Ghost Recon tactical shooter for free on PC this week!

Ubisoft is marking the 25th anniversary of the Ghost Recon series by offering PC gamers a chance to snag one of the franchise’s classic tactical shooters for free. As part of a series-wide celebration, players can enjoy discounts of up to 95% on various Ghost Recon titles across platforms like Ubisoft Connect, Steam, PlayStation, and Xbox, along with free play periods for some of the newer games.

For a limited time, PC players can claim Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon: Future Soldier for free on Ubisoft Connect until August 13. Unlike the free weekends for Ghost Recon Wildlands and Ghost Recon Breakpoint, which are available until August 10, anyone who claims Future Soldier during this promotion will retain it permanently.

Originally launched for Xbox 360 and PS3 in May 2012, with a PC release following shortly after, Future Soldier transported players into a near-future battlefield, featuring advanced military tech such as optical camouflage, reconnaissance drones, and the iconic Sync Shot mechanic. The campaign takes players through diverse locations including Bolivia, Zambia, Nigeria, Pakistan, Russia, and Norway, combining stealth elements with cinematic third-person action.

In a review from 2012, the game was praised for its blend of tactical stealth and engaging third-person shooting, along with intelligent squad mechanics, though its military thriller narrative was deemed somewhat forgettable. At launch, it garnered generally positive reviews, achieving a Metacritic score of 79.

The anniversary festivities also revealed the first official confirmation of a new Ghost Recon title in development. During the anniversary stream, live producer Irina-Gabriela Popa mentioned that Ubisoft has been working on “the next chapter of Ghost Recon” for the past few years, describing it as “a fun, fresh experience” that stays true to the series’ tactical action, large-scale operations, and military storytelling.

Additionally, Ubisoft introduced the Ghost Recon Insider Program, inviting players to sign up for future closed tests. While no title, trailer, or release date was disclosed, earlier reports suggest that the project, codenamed Project OVR, will shift away from the open-world looter-shooter mechanics of recent entries, focusing instead on a more grounded tactical military experience.

This upcoming game will be the first new Ghost Recon title since Breakpoint launched in 2019, marking the longest gap between mainline entries in the series’ 25-year history. The anniversary promotion also features major titles like Star Wars Outlaws and Far Cry 3.
