Growing Speculation Surrounds Potential Witcher 3 DLC Release in 2025
The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt will celebrate its 11th anniversary this May, and while the last major update was the next-gen version released in 2022, excitement is brewing over the possibility of a surprise expansion for this iconic open-world RPG.
Speculation kicked off last summer when a well-known Polish leaker hinted that developer CD Projekt Red might unveil new content for The Witcher 3 during the Game Awards. Although that reveal didn’t happen, the chatter about a potential expansion has only intensified since then.
Jump to January 8, and reports from local sources suggest that there have been whispers about a possible expansion for The Witcher 3 for years. Early rumors even pointed to the developers considering an isolated desert region called Zerrikania as the setting for this add-on. Located to the east of the Northern Kingdoms, where most of The Witcher series unfolds, Zerrikania is described in-game as a land of dragon worship, tattooed “warrior maids,” and deadly flies—definitely a place that could offer some thrilling adventures.
With The Witcher 4 not expected until at least January 2027, it wouldn’t be surprising if CD Projekt Red aims to keep fans engaged with new content in the meantime, especially if the much-anticipated sequel gets pushed into the next console generation. While this remains speculative, the signs are certainly pointing toward something exciting.
What we do know for certain is that The Witcher 3 will be receiving mod support on consoles this year. This update was initially slated for last year but has now been pushed to 2026. Here’s hoping CD Projekt Red has more surprises in store for fans!
