GTA 5 Modder Abandons Switch Project Following Controversial Remarks About Rockstar
In late September, a modder known as M0jso was riding high after their attempt to port Grand Theft Auto 5 to the Switch gained significant attention online. Despite Rockstar Games recently stating that modifying their titles for unofficial platforms was against their policies, M0jso seemed unfazed. They boldly challenged the company on social media, declaring, “Try me rockstar. idgaf.”
However, just a few days later, M0jso backtracked and issued an apology for their earlier bravado. “I am sorry for not fulfilling your expectations and leaving you high and dry,” they wrote, expressing gratitude for the leniency shown by Take-Two.
For those who missed it, M0jso had been working on an ambitious port of GTA 5 for the original Nintendo Switch. About a month prior, they shared a clip showcasing their progress, flying over Los Santos on the handheld console while maintaining a stable 30 frames per second. Fans were astonished, with one commenting, “I’m fucking sorry but, *what?* How is this possible?”
Throughout September, M0jso was vocal about their achievements, promising that GTA Online would soon be playable on the Switch, including the latest Cayo Perico heist. Their confidence led to some playful jabs at Rockstar on social media.
But just three days after their initial taunt, the situation took a turn. M0jso revealed that their dedicated Discord server had been shut down due to copyright infringement. They appeared genuinely shocked, responding to a warning about Take-Two’s reputation for legal action with, “Copyright infringement is anything but enforced in Serbia lmao. We’re a third world shithole.”
Despite this setback, M0jso remained defiant, claiming on social media that they wouldn’t be intimidated by a potential cease and desist letter from Take-Two. “I can just ignore it lmao,” they stated.
Less than a week later, however, M0jso reportedly received a C&D letter and quickly changed their stance. They announced the cancellation of the project and the disbanding of their production team. Fans, recalling M0jso’s earlier bravado, began to criticize the modder.
“Fuck you want me to do?” M0jso replied to a confused follower. “Fight them in court? I wasn’t expecting them to hit back hard.”
The modder expressed doubt about winning in court, stating, “It would just be stupid to try and fight Take-Two.” M0jso reflected on how their online boasting could complicate any legal defense if it came to that.
“I didn’t know what I was getting into,” M0jso admitted. “I did get too cocky.”
