GTA 6 Hackers Claim Latest Leak is Retaliation Against Rockstar for Digital-Only Release

When around 50 gameplay clips of Grand Theft Auto 6 leaked a few years back, it was primarily the work of a reckless hacker who seemed to act on a whim. However, the latest leak, which has emerged ahead of an extensive reveal from Rockstar Games and Netflix, carries a more pointed message. The group behind this leak, known as Cyberleek, issued a press release outlining three key “commandments.”

These commandments, detailed on Cyberleek’s website, mainly address recent business moves made by the publisher of Grand Theft Auto 6, Take-Two Interactive. The first commandment states, “Thou shalt not sell digital pre-orders.”

The second commandment reads, “Thou shalt not sell Fake Single-Player DLC,” likely referring to the $100 Ultimate Edition of GTA 6, which includes exclusive content. This edition offers cosmetic perks like tattoos and hairstyles, along with access to various shops. While such features are often seen as optional in many games, the GTA 6 community, particularly those engaged in role-playing, views character customization as essential.

The final commandment proclaims, “Thou shalt preserve single-player content.” Cyberleek expresses discontent with Take-Two’s choice to launch the game without a physical version, raising concerns that the game could become inaccessible once support is discontinued.

It’s been 12 years since the release of Grand Theft Auto 5, and the gaming landscape has shifted significantly.

The “about” section of Cyberleek’s website warns other publishers of potential leaks if they follow Take-Two’s lead, stating, “Behave, or be the next target.”

The political undertones of these leaks are evident, even without visiting the hackers’ site. All leaked footage and images are marked with watermarks declaring that Cyberleek is “fighting for gamer’s rights.”

Earlier in 2026, another hacking group called ShinyHunters issued an ultimatum to Rockstar: pay a ransom or face a leak. Rockstar chose to ignore them, leading to the release of the information. The company later claimed that the leaks had no effect on the game or its players.

Arion Kurtaj, the hacker who first revealed unreleased GTA 6 gameplay footage in 2023, also attempted to pressure Rockstar for communication, though the purpose of this outreach has never been disclosed. He is currently awaiting trial while in custody and has continued to post on social media using what appears to be a burner phone. Kurtaj has also claimed that his associates have access to GTA 6’s source code, although this claim remains unverified.

The spending habits of players in games like GTA Online and Red Dead Online shed light on the long-term focus of the creators of Grand Theft Auto 6.
