GTA 6 Introduces a Relationship System That Allows You to Keep Jason and Lucia as Friends

After a long wait of over ten years, fans of the franchise have finally caught a glimpse of gameplay in Grand Theft Auto 6. The recent showcase was packed with thrilling action but left many details about the game’s mechanics and systems under wraps. Fortunately, insights from various previews have shed light on the intricate workings behind the intense gameplay.

Rob Nelson, the head of development and co-studio head at Rockstar North, shared with multiple sources that the dynamic between the characters Jason and Lucia will require ongoing effort to maintain. Players will need to earn money outside of the main missions, engaging in activities like racing monster trucks, playing pool, or even diving for treasure. Additionally, it’s essential for both characters to invest time in their relationship by hanging out and responding to each other’s messages.

“It’s a fresh concept for GTA, where your actions impact how you treat your partner and the level of violence you exhibit,” Nelson explained. While it seems that spending excessive time in a strip club might not bode well for your romantic ties, this detail remains unconfirmed.

This aligns with the Bonnie and Clyde-inspired themes we’ve seen so far, but what’s intriguing is the option to keep Jason and Lucia as just friends. It appears there won’t be a way to completely distance the protagonists from each other, which could have opened up some fascinating narrative avenues.

“I have to say it feels great — if you’re into that concept. If not, it’s up to you,” Nelson remarked. “The narrative is designed so that their circumstances require them to stick together for most of the story and collaborate. At the very least, they will navigate most challenges as partners in crime.”

In the same interview, Nelson added, “Whether you’re getting into trouble, evading the cops, or just waiting for each other, playing as them together feels really cool. It feels like you’re looking out for them, if that’s your thing.”

Personally, I’m excited about keeping our lead duo close, but it’s great to have the option for players who prefer to skip the emotional aspects. Unfortunately, none of the previews have confirmed whether the couple will encounter any adult situations, but leaks suggest that there will definitely be both male and female nudity in the game.

Fans are eagerly speculating just how risqué Rockstar’s sequel will be.
