GTA 6 on PS5 Promises ‘Near-Instant Load Times’
If you think back to the early days of the GTA series, you might recall that the games were initially exclusive to PlayStation. Titles like GTA III, Vice City, and San Andreas all hit Sony’s console first, with Xbox ports arriving anywhere from six months to two years later. That legacy seems to linger, as recent revelations indicate that the PS5 version of GTA VI will feature a host of unique capabilities tailored to the PlayStation’s immersive hardware. Additionally, if pre-order details from New Zealand are accurate, there will be a PS5 Pro Enhanced version, boasting “near-instant load times.”
Details shared on PlayStation’s blog highlight how the PS5 edition of Grand Theft Auto VI will leverage the system’s advanced features that often go underutilized. Expect the DualSense controller to deliver immersive haptic feedback and adaptive triggers, along with its built-in speaker enhancing the experience. The blog enthusiastically states:
PS5 puts you in the center of the game world with the DualSense wireless controller reacting to your actions and bringing the sights, sounds, and sensations of Jason and Lucia’s story into the palm of your hands. The controller’s haptic feedback offers responsive vibrations, while its adaptive triggers provide dynamic resistance. The controller’s integrated speaker also adds another dimension to key moments and interactions, with sound effects from the controller enhanced by haptic feedback.
While some might dismiss these features as mere gimmicks, the impact of adaptive triggers in well-designed games is genuinely impressive. I’m not particularly fussed about the speaker, but as someone who typically plays on an Xbox Series S, the allure of the PS5 version is growing—especially with claims of its “ultra-high speed SSD” promising “near-instant load times.” Looks like I’ll need to clear out some space on my internal drive again.
Of course, we still don’t know how this stacks up against the Series X. While it may not offer the same clicky triggers or enhanced haptics, it could still perform admirably in terms of load times thanks to its own SSD. However, it won’t be able to match the potential boost from the PS5 Pro, if the enhanced edition turns out to be real. This rumor stems from a well-known Rockstar reporter who shared a screenshot from a New Zealand PS5 listing, indicating the game’s release date (November 18 there, since New Zealand is almost a day ahead) and featuring the “PS5 Pro Enhanced” tag.
There’s no official confirmation yet, but if this turns out to be true, you can bet Sony will be promoting it heavily as the marketing ramps up in the coming months. If only the Pros didn’t come with a staggering price tag of $900.
