GTA 6 projected to achieve 51 million sales in its opening week.
Grand Theft Auto 6 is gearing up to be another massive success for the developers. Recent analyst projections suggest that the game could rake in between $3.3 billion and $5.2 billion in total global sales by the end of its launch week.
The most conservative estimates from a gaming market insights firm indicate that GTA 6 is expected to sell around 37 million units in its first week, which they describe as “an exceptional result.” However, they anticipate that the game will likely earn closer to $4.5 billion, with sales reaching about 51 million units.
Pre-orders for GTA 6 kicked off on June 25, and estimates show that the game quickly generated $180 million in digital sales across the U.S., U.K., France, Italy, Germany, and Spain. The firm has dismissed media claims that GTA 6 made $1 billion in sales within its first hour or even its first week as “absurd,” stating, “Nothing ever has and nothing ever will.” Nonetheless, they acknowledge that GTA 6’s initial sales represent “the strongest opening to a pre-order campaign ever recorded in our dataset.”
So, if you were worried that the 230 million players of Grand Theft Auto 5 wouldn’t turn out for the highly anticipated sequel, rest assured. The developers are set to do just fine.
Back in 2013, Grand Theft Auto 5 shattered records with first-day sales exceeding $800 million globally, as announced by the developers at the time. Within just three days, GTA 5 had grossed over $1 billion, with nearly 29 million copies shipped in its first month. Initially, the game launched on only two platforms: PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, but it has since been ported to Windows PC and two additional console generations.
The developers officially unveiled Grand Theft Auto 6 in 2023, initially targeting a release in 2025. After several delays and gameplay reveals, they have now set a final release date for late 2026. They have also confirmed a controversial digital-only release for GTA 6, along with official pricing and pre-order details. Additionally, it has been confirmed that the new Grand Theft Auto will be a single-player-only experience, with no information yet on the future of Grand Theft Auto Online when GTA 6 launches.
Grand Theft Auto 6 is set to release on November 19 for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X, with no PC version announced at this time.
