GTA 6 Remains on Track for November Release, No Delays Announced

Earlier today, during a recent earnings call, the CEO of Take-Two Interactive, Strauss Zelnick, delivered some reassuring news for anxious GTA fans and investors alike: Grand Theft Auto 6 is still on track for its release on PS5 and Xbox Series X/S on November 19. No delays here—so take a deep breath!

On May 21, Take-Two shared its financial results for the fourth quarter and the entire fiscal year 2026. Typically, earnings calls for video game publishers don’t generate much buzz, but with Take-Two being the parent company of Rockstar, the stakes were high. After some now-debunked rumors about a delay, many tuned in and refreshed the company’s financial page, eager for confirmation that GTA 6 is indeed launching in November. And it is, with Zelnick expressing confidence in the timeline.

“I’ve been saying for some time that the release date is November 19,” Zelnick stated. “We obviously reiterated that today, so we feel really good about it.”

Last week, excitement turned to chaos when reports surfaced that Best Buy had mistakenly leaked the start date for GTA 6 pre-orders. While that turned out to be an error, it only fueled the anticipation and anxiety leading up to today’s earnings call.

Panic spread online when a post on 4chan claimed that GTA 6 would be delayed until February 2027. Although that rumor lacked any credibility, the mere suggestion of a delay sent the GTA community—who have been eagerly awaiting the next installment for over a decade—into a frenzy. Questions swirled: Would the highly anticipated trailer drop before the call? Would the game be delayed? Would the price be revealed? The answer to all those questions is a resounding no.

During the call, Zelnick reassured multiple outlets that Take-Two plans to heavily market Rockstar’s upcoming open-world crime saga.

“I’ve been asked by investors whether we need to spend marketing dollars given the scale of the intellectual property and its reach and the sentiment,” Zelnick explained. “And the answer is: of course, we need to market it.” However, he noted that the approach would differ from the past. “Thirteen years ago, we were still buying network television. We won’t be buying a lot of network television.”

When asked about the marketing strategy, Zelnick offered limited details but did hint at his appreciation for Mission: Impossible and Tom Cruise.

“Well, look, I mean, Rockstar is going to talk about all things GTA in the fullness of time,” he said. “So I can speak conceptually only about the marketing of entertainment properties. And I do think no matter how big a franchise is, consumers need to engage with that prior to release. The motion picture business reflects that as well. If you put out a sequel to Mission: Impossible, trust me, the studio is still going to spend a whole lot of money marketing that title, even though we kind of know what we’re going to get and we know we’re going to see Tom Cruise, and we’re thrilled that we will. Marketing is still an important part of any entertainment release.”

So there you have it: GTA 6 is still set for November, it will be backed by marketing and trailers, and it promises to be a massive launch. Everyone can relax, step outside, and take a breather. The next six months are going to feel like the longest wait yet.
