GTA 6’s First TV Commercial Omits the Steamy Shower Moments
Last night marked the debut of the first TV ads for the highly anticipated Grand Theft Auto 6, airing during NBA games. While it’s essentially the same launch trailer we saw last week, a few of the more risqué scenes, including a shower moment, were notably absent.
On October 20, fans on social media noticed a slightly altered version of the GTA 6 launch trailer during the opening night of the NBA season. Viewers caught the ad while tuning into the New York Knicks versus Philadelphia 76ers game, with others reporting similar sightings during the Pistons/Celtics and Thunder/Spurs matchups that evening.
In the ad, the initial shower scene remains, but the subsequent moments have been cut. It appears those scenes were deemed too provocative for broadcast, as the network is fine with guns, explosions, and heists, but not with a few frames of bare legs in a shower.
Dedicated GTA fans also pointed out some very minor tweaks between this new ad and the original launch trailer. The first commercial aired on NBC Sports, showcasing the trailer with some adjustments:
– Edited shower shots, leading to longer sequences elsewhere
– Extended plane shot
– Longer Jason and Lucia interaction
– Xbox logo completely omitted due to a partnership with PlayStation
It seems a few extra frames were added after Jason playfully punches Lucia’s arm, and there are additional frames of Lucia leaping from a truck onto a plane’s landing gear. While this doesn’t reveal anything groundbreaking, it’s still fresh footage of GTA 6.
This same ad is likely to appear during the upcoming Miami Heat game, which is being directly sponsored by GTA 6 and will feature special uniforms and more.
For many fans, seeing the GTA 6 launch trailer on TV during a basketball game made the game feel much more tangible. One viewer remarked, “Seeing it on a proper TV spot during a big game makes it feel real now.” Another noted that seeing the ad and the date on their living room screen made it clear that GTA 6 is just weeks away. After a decade filled with rumors, leaks, and delays, the long wait is almost over. Grand Theft Auto 6 is set to launch on November 19.
