Guerrilla Games is making it clear that their commitment to single-player experiences remains strong, even with the announcement of Horizon Hunters Gathering.

If you’ve been following the PlayStation community lately, you’ve likely noticed the anxiety surrounding Sony’s apparent shift towards multiplayer games. Titles like Concord faced backlash, as did the now-canceled multiplayer project for The Last of Us at Naughty Dog, along with rumors of a live-service God of War game being developed by Bluepoint.

Given this context, it’s no surprise that Guerrilla Games felt the need to address concerns with the reveal of their new Horizon multiplayer game and the playtest for Horizon Hunters Gathering. Studio director Jan-Bart Van Beek stated, “I want to be very clear about one thing. We absolutely love making single-player games, and we’re going to keep making them.”

He emphasized that single-player experiences are “a huge part of who we are as a studio.” However, Van Beek also mentioned their aspiration to explore new territory, stating, “Our own take on how you can explore the world of Horizon together as a team of machine hunters.” That’s essentially the essence of Horizon Hunters Gathering.

While there’s no word yet on whether Horizon 3 is in development, the studio’s priority to reassure fans that single-player games are here to stay offers hope that the next installment is still on track for a timely release.

In exciting news, Square Enix may soon unveil Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 3, as the RPG’s director promises “more updates” on the series “than ever before” this year.
