Guy Ritchie’s Netflix Crime Series Gets Renewed After Impressive Reception
Guy Ritchie is making waves in the streaming world. The mastermind behind Snatch and Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels has hit series across nearly every platform, including Young Sherlock on Prime Video, Mob Land on Paramount Plus, and The Gentlemen on Netflix. The spinoff of Ritchie’s 2019 film The Gentlemen debuted in 2024 and has become such a hit that Netflix has already greenlit a third season before the second season even premieres on September 3.
“The ambition of The Gentlemen has accelerated, the world has expanded and the consequences carry weight,” Ritchie stated. “A third season felt inevitable, and I’m looking forward to pushing the boundaries of it further.”
The series centers on Duke Eddie Honniman (Theo James), a former Army captain and UN peacekeeping officer who returns home after his father’s passing to save the family estate. Eddie uncovers that his father had allowed a drug dealer to run a cannabis farm on the property, and his older brother Freddy (Daniel Ings) is heavily in debt to another dealer. Initially, Eddie aims to make enough money from the illegal operation to rescue his family, but his ambitions grow. By the season’s end, he has formed a partnership with Susie Glass (Kaya Scodelario) to help manage her father’s criminal empire.
The latest trailer reveals Eddie’s attempts to broaden his influence through both violence and advocating for cannabis decriminalization. His more aggressive tactics unsettle Susie and her father Bobby (Ray Winstone), but he’s encouraged to carve out his own path by billionaire Stanley Johnston (Giancarlo Esposito), who was imprisoned alongside Bobby at the end of season 1. Season 2 is set to deliver a mix of bloodshed, unexpected humor, and thrilling action as the story shifts from the British countryside to Italy. It also teases a fresh take on the will-they-won’t-they dynamic between Eddie and Susie.
The network is gearing up for another major genre move.
