Hades 2 Developer: Early Access Boons Are Reskinned, Not Removed—”We Don’t Want to Be Too Attached”
Hades 2 developer Supergiant Games knows that moving on can be tough. While you might miss some features from the Early Access version of the roguelike, it’s best not to linger on that. Creative director Greg Kasavin reassures players that some of the “missing” Boons have made their way into the final game, albeit in a different form.
Regarding the Smithy Sprint, a powerful Boon that unleashed blasts while dashing, Kasavin explains, “We aimed for something simpler and more user-friendly for one of the main Boons from the god of the forge. In doing so, we integrated the concept of keep-sprinting-for-a-big-blast into the Black Coat weapon’s Aspect of Nyx. If you haven’t tried it yet, I highly recommend it! I personally enjoy using it. Sometimes, ideas for Boons and abilities find new homes like this!”
This is the essence of Early Access. Kasavin notes that Supergiant “iterated on various content throughout Early Access, driven by our impressions and goals for the game.” The aim was to create “truly powerful abilities and combinations that can lead to memorable, breakthrough runs where you achieve victory.” But that doesn’t happen every time.
“At Supergiant, we’ve come to appreciate and trust the process of reaching our final product,” Kasavin shares. “Sometimes, intriguing Boon ideas or great lines of dialogue get reworked, but we believe it’s crucial not to hold onto these elements too tightly when they serve the greater vision.”
“We’ve learned to love and trust the process”: How Hades 2 built on Supergiant’s Early Access legacy to deliver the best roguelike of 2025.
