Halide Co-Founder Sebastiaan de With Joins Apple’s Design Team
Sebastiaan de With, co-founder of Lux and creator of popular apps like Halide, Kino, and Orion, has announced his new role on Apple’s design team. He expressed his excitement about collaborating with what he considers the best team in the industry on products he loves.
De With is particularly recognized for his insightful analyses of Apple’s iPhone cameras. His commentary on the iPhone 16E’s camera, which he referred to as a “vibe,” garnered significant attention, and his review of the iPhone 17 Pro camera is equally compelling. The apps from Lux, including Halide and Kino, showcase unique features, such as the Process Zero mode in Halide and the advanced capabilities in Kino for video capture.
Ben Sandofsky, Lux’s other co-founder, shared his thoughts on Reddit, expressing optimism about the future of Lux and Halide. He highlighted the recent public preview of Halide Mark III, which has received an overwhelmingly positive response. Sandofsky mentioned their collaboration with the esteemed team at The Iconfactory and colorist Cullen Kelly to enhance the new looks in Mark III. He reflected on his decade-long journey with Halide, emphasizing his commitment to the project and the collaborative nature of its design.
While de With has previously collaborated with Apple, details about his past work, including contributions to iCloud, MobileMe, and the Find My apps, are no longer available on his website.
