Halloween: The Game Introduces $10 DLC Featuring Michael’s Iconic Mask
Halloween: The Game has evolved into a compelling asymmetrical horror experience, especially with the recent patches and balance tweaks. Developer Illfonic is gearing up to roll out the game’s first post-launch content, starting with a new $10 Michael Myers skin inspired by his look in Halloween 5.
On October 5, Illfonic revealed the initial wave of paid DLC and free content set to launch on October 27. The highlight for slasher fans is the introduction of two new Michael Myers skins.
One skin will reflect his appearance from Halloween (2018), which is particularly exciting for me, as it ranks just behind his original look from the first film. The other skin, however, is a bit of a head-scratcher. Illfonic is bringing in Michael’s mask from Halloween 5. Each of these new skins will be priced at $10, which feels a bit steep.
For years, fans have critiqued Halloween 5’s mask for straying too far from the iconic look of earlier films. The elongated and more defined face gives Michael a less menacing and more peculiar appearance. While some argue that the mask from Resurrection, complete with eyebrows, is worse, I still find it preferable to the oddity of Halloween 5’s mask. Nonetheless, it makes sense for Illfonic to introduce this version of Michael, especially since they’re also adding a new free map inspired by the farm setting from Halloween 5.
In addition to the new free map and two paid Michael skins, Illfonic has announced a DLC civilian pack that will introduce two new playable survivors, Michelle and Eugene, for $10. There will also be a Halloween-themed costume pack for civilians featuring 14 outfits—one for each character, along with color variants—priced at $10.
While I’m eager to see Halloween: The Game grow, I’m not too thrilled about some of these price points. Charging $10 for a single skin feels a bit harsh. However, in a gaming landscape where titles like Fortnite charge $15 or more for a skin, this might just be the new norm. That’s scarier than any Michael mask, though perhaps not as unsettling as that CG Michael mask from Halloween: H20.
