Halo Remake to Include Physical Discs for Collectors

Following recent announcements regarding physical releases from various companies, Halo Studios has confirmed that Halo: Campaign Evolved will indeed be available on disc when it launches later this month.

This confirmation was made during a community Q&A on the Halo Waypoint website, where senior community manager John Junyszek addressed a question about whether purchasing Halo: Campaign Evolved at a retail store would include a disc. He affirmed, “Yes! Buying the Xbox or PlayStation version of Halo: Campaign Evolved at your local retailer will result in getting the physical game case and disc so that you have tangible items to add to your collection.”

It’s not surprising that Halo: Campaign Evolved is receiving a traditional physical release, especially for a major Xbox title. However, the clarification was likely prompted by recent announcements that have raised concerns about the future of physical game launches.

For instance, when Grand Theft Auto 6 releases in 2026, its physical edition will only include a download code instead of a disc. Additionally, PlayStation plans to cease production of new physical game discs by 2028.

Microsoft has also committed to releasing future Halo games on PlayStation, which adds another layer of complexity to the franchise’s future. This response from Halo Studios suggests a commitment to maintaining physical game releases, as they recognize the value of providing “tangible items” for fans. It’s important to note that an online connection will still be necessary to play Halo: Campaign Evolved in local co-op.

Other interesting details from the Q&A include the introduction of a Machinima freecam mode, Steam Deck verification, and the option to toggle friendly fire in co-op. Fans won’t have to wait long to experience all of this, as Halo: Campaign Evolved is set to launch on PlayStation 5, Windows PC, and Xbox Series X on July 28.
