HBO Executive Confirms Season 2 of It: Welcome to Derry is Actively Moving Forward
It’s been two months since *It: Welcome to Derry* wrapped up its first season, drawing in 6.5 million viewers and establishing itself as a standout hit on HBO Max. While fans are eager for more, the show hasn’t been officially renewed yet. However, network head Casey Bloys reassured viewers that the project is very much alive.
“Let me clarify, [it’s] not in limbo at all. Hardly. It was a huge success for us,” Bloys recently stated. “Andy and Barbara [Muschietti] are actively brainstorming ideas for a story they want to explore in another season. I would be thrilled to see it happen. One of the hurdles is that there isn’t a book to adapt, so it requires some creative invention. They want to ensure they have a story that excites them. So, it’s not in limbo; they just need to find a concept that sparks their creativity. We’re ready to support them.”
Andy Muschietti, who directed several episodes of *It: Welcome to Derry* and the film adaptations of *It* and *It: Chapter Two*, has hinted that the second season will focus on the Bradley Gang Massacre, a violent incident briefly mentioned in Stephen King’s *It*. Given that season 1 delved into the tragic burning of the Black Spot, we can expect a similar treatment for this historical event in the next installment.
“It takes place during the Depression in Derry, featuring some new characters alongside younger versions of familiar faces from this season,” Muschietti explained. While they’re still working out the details, it’s likely we’ll see younger iterations of long-time residents Rose and Ingrid, portrayed by Kimberly Guerrero and Madeleine Stowe in the first season.
*It: Welcome to Derry* season 1 is currently available for streaming on HBO.
