HBO Max and Paramount Plus to Combine into One Streaming Service with Skydance

HBO Max and Paramount Plus are set to merge into a single streaming platform as part of Paramount’s $110 billion acquisition of Warner Bros. Discovery. In a recent announcement, the newly formed entity, Skydance, indicated that the two services will gradually combine into one.

Skydance CEO David Ellison previously hinted at this development, mentioning in a March investor call that the merger could result in over 200 million direct-to-consumer subscribers. However, specifics regarding the timeline for this transition and the name of the unified service remain under wraps, with HBO CEO Casey Bloys taking the lead on the integration.

This merger aims to bolster their competitive edge against Netflix, which reported 325 million subscribers as of January. By consolidating their offerings, fans can expect to find popular series from both platforms in one place, including hits like Mobland, Yellowstone, The White Lotus, and House of the Dragon.
