HBO’s Harry Potter series announces casting for a major role in Season 2’s Chamber of Secrets.

Filming for the second season of the upcoming Harry Potter TV series is already underway, even before the first season has hit screens. This new season will delve into the story from the second book, Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, and new characters are being introduced. Recently, Tom Riddle and Ginny Weasley have been cast, with Ginny being recast for the role.

On Tuesday, three more actors joined the lineup: Rafe Spall as Arthur Weasley, Jasper Ambrose as Colin Creevey, and Molly Hewitt-Richards as Moaning Myrtle. Arthur Weasley, the father of Ginny, Ron, and the rest of the Weasley clan, plays a supporting role. Spall is known for his performances in Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz, and Apple TV’s Trying. In the original film series, Arthur Weasley was portrayed by Mark Williams.

Colin Creevey is a Hogwarts student and a devoted fan of Harry Potter. While Ambrose may not have an extensive acting background, he did lend his voice to a sheep in this year’s The Sheep Detectives. In the films, Creevey was played by Hugh Mitchell.

Molly Hewitt-Richards stepping into the role of Moaning Myrtle is a significant addition. Myrtle plays a crucial part in the Chamber of Secrets storyline, having been killed by the Basilisk in the 1940s and haunting the bathroom where she met her end. She assists Harry and Ron in uncovering the secrets of the Chamber. Hewitt-Richards has appeared in British dramas like Code of Silence and Casualty, taking over the role from Shirley Henderson, who portrayed Myrtle in the films.

The series features a fresh cast, with young actors Dominic McLaughlin as Harry Potter, Arabella Stanton as Hermione Granger, and Alastair Stout as Ron Weasley. They will be joined by seasoned actors such as John Lithgow as Albus Dumbledore, Janet McTeer as Minerva McGonagall, Paapa Essiedu as Severus Snape, Nick Frost as Rubeus Hagrid, Rory Wilmot as Neville Longbottom, Lox Pratt as Draco Malfoy, Leo Earley as Seamus Finnigan, Elijah Oshin as Dean Thomas, Tristan Harland as Fred Weasley, Gabriel Harland as George Weasley, Ruari Spooner as Percy Weasley, Alessia Leoni as Parvati Patil, Sienna Moosah as Lavender Brown, Finn Stephens as Vincent Crabbe, William Nash as Gregory Goyle, Warwick Davis as Filius Flitwick, and Sirine Saba as Pomona Sprout.

The impressive cast also includes Daniel Rigby as Vernon Dursley, Bel Powley as Petunia Dursley, Paul Whitehouse as Argus Filch, Johnny Flynn as Lucius Malfoy, Bertie Carvel as Cornelius Fudge, Luke Thallon as Quirinus Quirrell, Katherine Parkinson as Molly Weasley, Amos Kitson as Dudley Dursley, Gracie Cochrane as Ginny Weasley, Richard Durden as Cuthbert Binns, Louise Brealey as Rolanda Hooch, Bríd Brennan as Poppy Pomfrey, Leigh Gill as Griphook, and Anton Lesser as Garrick Ollivander.

Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone is set to premiere on December 25.
