Hellboy Makes His Comeback in New Event by Mike Mignola – Check Out the First Look!

A new chapter in Hellboy’s journey through the underworld is set to unfold this fall. Dark Horse Comics has revealed “Hellboy in Hell: Nothing But Blood,” a two-part comic event that sees creator Mike Mignola returning to his iconic series.

This latest installment picks up after the eighth issue of the original “Hellboy in Hell” series. In this story, Hellboy embarks on a mission to rescue a young woman amidst a demonic uprising. However, as the announcement hints, “nothing — and no one — are what they seem.”

The original “Hellboy in Hell” series wrapped up in 2016 after a four-year run, continuing Hellboy’s saga following his descent into Hell during the “Hellboy: The Fury” arc.

While Mignola illustrated all ten issues of “Hellboy in Hell,” he will not be the sole artist for “Nothing But Blood.” French artist Cyrille Pomés will take the reins for this two-issue event, marking his debut in American comics. The main cover for issue #1, along with a variant cover by Mignola, showcases Pomés’ unique style.

Mignola expressed his excitement about collaborating with Pomés, stating, “Yes, I too thought ‘Hellboy in Hell’ was a closed book — but a while back I discovered the work of Cyrille Pomés and instantly fell in love with it. We actually met, and when he said he’d like to do a Hellboy story, well, how could I say no to that? I still had half an idea for a Hell story rattling around in my head and invited him to flesh that out, so now what you have is a true collaboration on the story and his absolutely wonderful art and storytelling.”

Pomés shared his admiration for Mignola, noting, “He was the artist whose early work had such a profound impact on me as a teenager, and whose evolution I’ve followed with awe ever since.” When they met, he took the opportunity to ask if Mignola would write a script for him to illustrate. Mignola’s response was, “It would be an honor.”

“Hellboy in Hell: Nothing But Blood” #1, the first of the two issues, is set to hit shelves on October 7. Joining Mignola and Pomés is colorist Dave Stewart, with Marc Riou providing a variant cover for issue #2.

Additionally, “Hellboy in Love: Black Eyes” will be released next week.
