Helldivers 2 Developer Arrowhead is reportedly developing a game-changing roguelite mode.

Out of the blue, Helldivers 2’s creative director Johan Pilestedt has dropped some exciting news: developer Arrowhead is working on a roguelite game mode.

Pilestedt shared this tidbit in a December 10 tweet while responding to a fan who expressed a desire for a roguelike or endless mode featuring waves of enemies and ongoing objectives on the same map. In response, Pilestedt stated, “Hey! We have a prototype of a rogue-lite mode.”

He went on to say, “It changes the game fundamentally!” This is a significant statement, considering that Helldivers 2 is all about strategic, squad-based gameplay rather than the chaotic nature typical of roguelites. It seems this new mode will completely transform the experience on Super Earth.

However, Pilestedt didn’t provide any further details about Arrowhead’s prototype. We’re left in the dark about when this roguelite mode will launch, what it will entail, or the current development stage of the prototype. For now, players can focus on the new commemorative cape reward for liberating the Hive World Oshaune from the Gloom cloud. That’s a nice touch, right?

Or maybe you’re more excited about the mysterious roguelite mode, which could be something you didn’t even know you wanted. You might want to start thinking about your gear for when it finally drops.

“My pants are ready for a helldivers roguelike,” one player tweeted. “I have three pairs of pants ready and waiting,” another chimed in. Alright, maybe we should move on from that topic.

In other news, the Helldivers 2 team reports that morale at Arrowhead is “much better now” following the backlash from Into the Unjust, with the “Steam score trending upwards” and “development progressing.”
