One of the standout features of Helldivers 2 is how the entire player community influences the unfolding narrative based on their success in reclaiming territory from various threats. The latest foes in the ongoing Galactic War, the cyborgs, are at the heart of Helldivers 2’s most ambitious update yet, and the developers at Arrowhead are genuinely uncertain about how it will all play out.
The Machinery of Oppression update is set to launch the Battle for Cyberstan, currently under siege by ruthless, democracy-despising cyborgs. It’s time to take action. The real question is: do we, the defenders of Super Earth, have what it takes? Just like the previous battle for Super Earth, the outcome remains a mystery—even to Arrowhead.
“The outcome is not predetermined, so we don’t know what will happen,” game director Mikael Eriksson shared. “Players can win and players can lose, and it’s going to be exciting to see how it unfolds. Last time, during the Battle for Super Earth, we were in the same boat. Ultimately, players managed to defend Super Earth, which was amazing to witness. The aftermath was pure joy for everyone at the office, except maybe the Game Master, who was a bit stressed, but for the rest of us, it was a blast.”
Eriksson emphasized that this upcoming update is Helldivers 2’s most ambitious yet, introducing “a new type of meta gameplay” that will clarify the potential consequences and outcomes based on players’ strategies in the battle.
The Battle for Cyberstan kicks off tomorrow, February 10.
John Helldiver is now part of Arrowhead lore, thanks to the community: “Named by the community.”
