Helldivers 2 Update Boosts Difficulty, Enhances Melee Weapons, and Improves Enemy Accuracy
A significant new update for Helldivers 2 has just dropped, introducing a slew of balance adjustments, a brand-new tank vehicle, enemy tweaks, heightened challenges for the toughest difficulties, and more. Oh, and it seems the bots have managed to swipe the schematics for Super Earth’s planet-destroying space laser, which is a bit alarming.
According to the latest patch notes, this update brings the Bastion Tank into the fray, designed to “roll over entrenched enemies.” Players can expect to see it in-game later today, along with the new Siegebreakers Warbond.
For seasoned players seeking a tougher experience, this patch has you covered. The update has ramped up the intensity across all factions on higher difficulties, with the most noticeable changes occurring on the Automaton front, while the Terminids and the Illuminate see less impact. This adjustment primarily affects difficulties nine and ten.
The balance changes are the standout feature of this patch, with numerous tweaks to both weapons and enemies. Notably, all melee weapons have received a significant buff, with base melee attack damage increased by 50%. While the modifiers on armor passives that boost melee damage have been reduced, the overall damage with the melee armor passive will remain the same or higher than before. The goal is to make the melee damage-boosting Armor passive less essential while still enhancing the effectiveness of melee weapons.
In addition, the sway modifier for SMGs and pistols has been adjusted to align with most other weapons. The aim here is to maintain the close-combat nature of these weapons while reducing their effectiveness at range.
On the enemy side, adjustments have been made to enhance their effectiveness against heavily armored Helldiver vehicles. Attacks from Bile Titans, Chargers, Crescent Overseers, Overseers, rocket-firing Automatons, Hulk melee attacks, mortars, and acid have all seen value adjustments. Some changes are specific to certain targets, like the Bastion, while others also impact the FRV and Exosuits.
Enemies have also improved their aiming capabilities. The calculations for enemy targeting were previously not updated effectively when multiple foes were trying to aim, making Automatons less accurate on higher difficulties. Now, they should aim more effectively, even in crowded situations, without any performance penalties.
Numerous bugs have been squashed, and a new “hang detection” feature has been implemented to prevent players from getting stuck in a freeze. If the game freezes for over 20 seconds, Helldivers 2 will now intentionally crash, generating a “crash dump” file that contains crucial debugging information for developers to diagnose and resolve the issue. Players experiencing a freeze are advised to wait at least 40 seconds before restarting their PC to allow the hang detector to function properly.
