Helldivers 2 Update Teases New Illuminate Structures Amidst Boss Hints of Chaos and Destruction

The next chapter of Helldivers 2 is set to bring plenty of chaos and, unsurprisingly, a lot of dying. Teasers from Arrowhead Game Studios hint at the emergence of Squ’ith structures, signaling yet another brutal showdown with this ancient species.

In a recent update from the Ministry of Truth, it was announced that the Star of Peace, a formidable cosmic weapon, is nearing its final stages of development. This significant upgrade will transform the Democracy Space Station (DSS) into a massive laser, designed to unleash a powerful beam for widespread Freedom distribution.

However, there’s a catch – it consumes standard metals used for spreading liberty at an alarming rate. Fortunately, the Automatons have the answer, having crafted a superalloy capable of enduring the harshest volcanic environments.

MAJOR ORDER: The Star of Peace is progressing toward completion, with its primary optical array currently under construction. This upgrade will enable the Democracy Space Station (DSS) to function as a macro-scale laser, generating a high-yield beam optimized for mass…

“Helldivers: secure the Magma Planets. Protect the mining infrastructure and dismantle the invading Automaton forces to facilitate the collection of internal components,” the report continues. “Their repurposed heat-resistance will ensure that Liberty’s light can shine safely upon all foes of Freedom.”

Among the footage, around 23 seconds in, there’s a fleeting glimpse of what appears to be an ancient Squ’ith stronghold, enough to send shivers down the spine of anyone familiar with their terrifying presence. The squid-like creatures, known as the Illuminate, have existed for thousands of years longer than humanity, posing a significant challenge for Super Earth. As one dedicated Helldiver remarked on Reddit, “At this point, I have no idea what the next major update will bring.”

Arrowhead CEO Shams Jorjani previously hinted that “a lot of Helldivers will die” in the upcoming chaos. Thankfully, we’re all tenacious and ready to throw ourselves into the fray until the problem is resolved, but this could be a tough time for the divers. Gear up.

The CCO of Helldivers 2 prefers to focus on adding “sequel-level features,” such as 8-player missions and larger open-world maps, rather than jumping straight into Helldivers 3.
