If you log into Helldivers 2 right now, you’ll be greeted by a familiar face. The service technician aboard your Super Destroyer is back in action, hanging out in the lobby and ready to maintain your arsenal.

“Grateful to be back,” she says in her new dialogue. “And to have been gone. You learn a lot in professional development training, like how to create better documentation and how to stay focused on a projector screen for hours at a time.” Sounds thrilling—better her than me!

Sarah Elmaleh, the voice behind the character, announced her return to the multiplayer shooter on Instagram. “Sounds like the latest update has some staffing changes,” she shared. “So happy to be back in Helldivers 2. Love this game, love this team, love this character. Big thanks to the devs for having me back; love to the players who missed her.”

While the in-game reason for her absence is a tedious training session, the reality is tied to the recent SAG-AFTRA video game strike. From July 2024 to July 2025, voice and motion capture actors in the industry protested against publishers over the potential use of AI.

Around 2,600 individuals involved in motion capture and voice work participated, withholding their talents until a new agreement was reached. The technician’s absence likely coincided with Arrowhead running out of recorded lines from Elmaleh, and it’s taken until now for new content to be created and integrated into the game.

Regardless of the circumstances, players are thrilled. “This is the best day of my democratic life!” exclaims one Redditor. “It’s great to have her back,” adds another, while a third jokes about only hearing the “legends.”

Of course, there’s some strike-related humor in the mix. “Apparently, non-compensated labor was what that strike was about, the one that some other service technicians got a little too interested in,” the technician quips in another possible exchange. “The bad apples got re-educated, so it all worked out.”

Helldivers 2 grunts, your tank awaits: Completely “pancake” Automatons threatening democracy with “new heavy-hitting” Bastion Tank.
