The Helldivers movie has finally locked in a release date and has cast Jason Momoa in the lead role.

According to reports, Momoa will headline the film, although his character remains under wraps. The movie is set to hit theaters on November 10, 2027.

In 2025, it was announced that a film based on Helldivers 2, the sequel to the popular top-down shooter, was in development. As described, the game follows an elite squad of soldiers known as Helldivers, who are tasked with combating alien threats to the fictional planet of Super Earth. It offers a satirical take on fascism reminiscent of Starship Troopers, with players sent to alien worlds to spread “democracy” against swarms of insects, squid-like aliens, and hostile robotic factions.

Justin Lin, known for directing several Fast and Furious films and Star Trek Beyond, will helm the project, while Gary Dauberman, who wrote Annabelle, is set to craft the screenplay. Reactions to the director and writer have been mixed, but Arrowhead CEO Shams Jorjani expresses confidence in their vision.

Momoa previously starred in a Minecraft Movie, which achieved remarkable success at the global box office, and is set to portray Blanka in the upcoming live-action Street Fighter adaptation arriving in October. This summer, he will take on the role of intergalactic bounty hunter Lobo in James Gunn’s Supergirl.
