Hello Kitty and Godzilla Team Up for a Cute Happy Meal Collaboration
Fans of Sanrio and the Monsterverse have something to celebrate, as Hello Kitty and Godzilla are set to make their debut in Happy Meal boxes nationwide. Starting Tuesday, August 18, McDonald’s will include characters from both franchises with every Happy Meal order.
In a fun twist, eight beloved Sanrio characters will be dressed up as iconic creatures from the Monsterverse, featuring Godzilla and his various adversaries. Naturally, Hello Kitty will don the Godzilla costume, making her the star of this collaboration. Here’s a look at the Happy Meal toy lineup for the Sanrio x Godzilla event at McDonald’s:
This charming partnership is sure to attract attention, which unfortunately means scalpers might swoop in to grab them. Previous collaborations have seen scalpers buying up entire menus, leading to wasted food. For instance, when Pokémon cards were included in Happy Meals in 2021, it resulted in a toy shortage and food being discarded, as some adults ordered multiple meals at once. A similar situation occurred again in 2025.
If this trend continues, McDonald’s will need to devise a strategy to minimize food waste and curb scalpers from hoarding all the toys. Let’s hope the excitement doesn’t escalate to the point where McDonald’s feels the need to implement facial recognition technology in its locations, similar to what Pokémon Centers in Japan have done.
