Hideo Kojima announces that Kojima Productions is entering its “Third Phase,” emphasizing a focus on “staying grounded and building solid foundations” as they develop OD and Physint for 2026.
Kojima Productions has hit the decade mark, and Hideo Kojima has set his sights on 2026 as a year dedicated to “staying grounded and laying solid foundations” as the studio transitions into its “Third Phase.”
The studio was established shortly after the release of Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain and the split from Konami, marking the beginning of a new chapter for Kojima. Fast forward ten years, and Kojima Productions has made a name for itself with titles like Death Stranding and its sequel, while also preparing to broaden its horizons with upcoming projects: OD and Physint.
In a New Year message on Twitter, Kojima shared, “In 2026, we will move forward with the ‘Second Phase’ that leads into Kojima Productions’ ‘Third Phase.'” He noted, “Unlike last year, where I was traveling all over the world, this year will focus on staying grounded and laying solid foundations.”
Kojima elaborated, “We will continue development on the horror game ‘OD’ and advance preparations for the espionage action title ‘Physint’,” which involves casting actors, scanning, and performance capture shoots. Additionally, he mentioned his work on the Death Stranding film and the animated adaptations based on the game, hinting at “several ‘events'” planned for this year.
In addition to celebrating its 10th anniversary last month, Kojima pointed out that 2026 is significant for him personally as well, marking his 40th year in the gaming industry: “Thank you, as always, for your continued support and supporting Kojima Productions.”
Kojima refers to Death Stranding 2 as his “masterpiece,” emphasizing that his “latest work” is always his best.
