Hideo Kojima encourages fans to watch the OD teaser trailer repeatedly for a major clue about his upcoming horror game, adding, “I can’t say anything else.”
If you’re scratching your head over what OD is, you’re not alone, and Hideo Kojima has a message for you. While he’s keeping the details under wraps, he suggests gamers watch the teaser trailer “100 times” for a potential “big hint.”
In a recent chat, Kojima described OD as a unique form of media, crafted entirely within a game engine. “At first glance, OD might seem like horror,” he explains. “But the system behind it is anything but ordinary. Everything is created in a game engine, and while it’s still a game, it represents a completely new medium that we developed alongside Microsoft.”
Kojima playfully admits he can’t share much more without facing the ire of Xbox head Phil Spencer, but he encourages fans to scrutinize the teaser trailer closely. “I can’t reveal anything else or Mr. Phil will be mad at me,” he quips. “However, if you watch the teaser trailer multiple times, there’s a hint. I really can’t disclose what it is, but if you watch it 100 times… At the end, it says ‘for all players and screamers.’ That’s a significant clue.”
Known for his flair for the dramatic, Kojima has a history of bold statements about his projects. Those familiar with his past comments, like those regarding Quiet’s outfit in Metal Gear Solid 5, know he often stirs up excitement. Regardless, anticipation is high for whatever he’s brewing in the studio.
Even Kojima himself admits he’s unsure of what OD will ultimately become, stating it will differ from Metal Gear Solid and Death Stranding: “I can’t specify what it is yet, nor do I know if it will pan out.”
