Hideo Kojima Envisions Predator: Badlands as an Exciting Game Experience with Elle Fanning by Your Side
Hideo Kojima has expressed interest in seeing the video game-inspired film Predator: Badlands transformed into its own gaming experience.
In a tweet from November, Kojima shared his thoughts on Predator: Badlands, stating, “It represents a new direction for Hollywood entertainment led by a new generation of filmmakers who have inherited the global ‘memes’ of manga, anime, and gaming culture.”
Director Dan Trachtenberg has previously mentioned that games like Monster Hunter, Shadow of the Colossus, and Prince of Persia influenced the film, and he also expressed a desire to see a Badlands game. It turns out Kojima shares this sentiment.
In a conversation with Wired, responding to a fan’s question about films he would like to adapt into video games, Kojima mentioned, “I recently saw Predator: Badlands. That felt quite game-like, traveling with Elle Fanning on your back.” He also pointed to the TV series Last Samurai Standing as another plot that could lend itself well to a game, adding, “I might not make it, but it seems cool.”
Trachtenberg caught wind of Kojima’s comments and replied on Twitter with a simple, enthusiastic, “Yes please.”
For those familiar with Death Stranding, it’s worth noting that Kojima has already created a game where you travel with Elle Fanning, as her character in Death Stranding 2 is revealed to be the baby in a jar you carry during the events of the first game. This might suggest that Kojima won’t pursue this adaptation either. Personally, I prioritize original games from Kojima, especially in a landscape where many developers are focused on established franchises like Marvel and Star Wars.
In a reflection on his creative process, Kojima remarked that being creative “isn’t special,” but rather as essential as eating: “If creativity were taken out of my daily life, I probably wouldn’t survive.”
