In a recent reveal, Hideo Kojima, director of Death Stranding 2, showcased something I never thought possible: a post-apocalyptic Australia that pairs perfectly with plush turtleneck sweaters. This was highlighted in an early look at the Death Stranding 2 art book, which is now available for pre-order.
Kojima shared images of his new book sample, featuring stunning early designs for characters like Sam, the game’s beloved delivery hero, and intriguing concepts like “tarfalls,” which he initially envisioned as massive, sticky mounds of spilled ink. He also provided a sneak peek of Sam and his ally Fragile in what he describes as a “pre-COVID setting.”
This earlier setting shows Sam and Fragile in a more casual business environment, with Sam sporting a stylish blue suit and turtleneck, while Fragile takes on a commanding presence in a blazer dress. While it’s a bit disheartening to see co-working spaces still in play in Kojima’s apocalyptic vision, he reassures fans on Twitter that the storyline was adjusted after the pandemic hit. Otherwise, Sam and Fragile might have been depicted in a more mundane meeting style.
However, not all fans are thrilled with the changes. One lamented, “We could have had the hottest Sam and Fragile. FUCK.” Better luck next time!
The PC port of Death Stranding 2 is set to launch in March, featuring “unlocked framerates” and ultra widescreen support, much to the delight of Kojima enthusiasts.
