Hideo Kojima is reflecting on the Metal Gear Solid 3 Premium Package and the impressive roster of contributors featured in its accompanying book.
Metal Gear Solid 3 is, in my opinion, the greatest game ever made (and you should agree, because it’s true). Even over 20 years later, this title, which was the least commercially successful of the original four Metal Gear Solid games, continues to spark conversations and is the one Konami chose to remake with 2025’s Metal Gear Solid Delta. Although Kojima is no longer directly involved with the series, he’s been looking back fondly on his masterpiece.
On Twitter, Kojima shared images of one of the books from the Japanese-exclusive Metal Gear Solid 3 Premium Package, highlighting the remarkable list of contributors. Notable names include future collaborator Guillermo del Toro, filmmaker John Woo, Parasite Eve author Hideaki Sena, and Polish writer Stanisław Lem. Kojima remarked, “The lineup of contributors has now become legendary.”
Yano san discovered the novel from the limited edition of MGS3. At that time, neither the contributors nor I felt any fear. The energy we had was incredible. Kojima reminisced, “At the time, neither the contributors nor I had any fear. The energy we had was incredible.” He also shared photos of messages from some contributors, with del Toro expressing, “all of a sudden, Pain, Fear, and Sorrow are things I look forward to,” referring to the game’s boss battles, and adding, “Konami has nailed the mood, the moves, the fights. Awesome!”
Woo noted that the series has “played an important part in the history of the video game industry,” adding, “The classic battles between Liquid Snake and Solid Snake definitely belong on the big screen.”
Metal Gear Solid Master Collection Vol. 2’s included games have vanished from storefronts without warning.
