Hideo Kojima Teases Mysterious New Horror Game OD, Promises a Departure from Metal Gear Solid and Death Stranding: “I can’t reveal much yet, and I’m unsure how it will turn out.”

Hideo Kojima, the creative force behind Metal Gear and Death Stranding, is far from slowing down. With Death Stranding 2 set to release this year, he’s already diving into another ambitious project: the enigmatic horror game OD. This venture is so bold that even Kojima himself is uncertain about its outcome.

“I can’t reveal too much just yet, and I’m not sure how it will turn out,” he shared in a recent interview. “We’ve developed stealth and delivery games that were unique, but they still followed familiar systems. This time, we’re aiming to overhaul the service model entirely, which presents a significant challenge.”

He’s referring to his iconic series, Metal Gear and Death Stranding, both of which, while innovative, relied on established gameplay mechanics like stealth and open-world exploration. Early insights suggest that OD is pushing boundaries, reminiscent of his brief involvement with Silent Hill and the unforgettable PT.

So far, there’s been no in-game footage, just a couple of cryptic teasers, which is classic Kojima marketing. Remember when the only glimpse we had of Death Stranding was Norman Reedus cradling a baby on a beach? This time, we see Sophia Lillis lighting candles while something ominous lurks nearby, hinting at the haunted setting she’s in.

Kojima has packed the trailer with clues, encouraging fans to piece together the mystery. “We’ve filled it with hints, so if you think about it, you might uncover something,” he noted.

The game features a collaboration with Oscar-winning writer and director Jordan Peele, alongside a cast that includes Hunter Schafer and Udo Kier. While Xbox Game Studios is handling the publishing, a release date has yet to be announced.

Kojima previously aimed to “make you s*** your pants” with the now-shelved Silent Hills, and he’s set on achieving that goal again with OD, declaring, “It’s really scary.”
