Highguard Launches First Patch to Tackle Key Player Concerns

Highguard has already rolled out its first major update since launching on January 26. The January 29 patch from Wildlight Entertainment aims to tackle some of the player-reported issues following the free-to-play raid shooter’s rocky start. Currently, the game holds a “mostly negative” rating on Steam with over 22,000 reviews, but we had a blast during a pre-launch preview event last week. It seems like Highguard has become a favorite target for online critics, and it will be a challenge for any quick update to change that perception. Nevertheless, the Wildlight team is working hard to enhance the player experience, with more updates on the horizon.

“Hey Wardens! We’ve just pushed out a patch with a number of improvements, including FoV sliders for consoles, toggle options for ADS and Crouch, many video settings, and more. The team is also working on optimization improvements; they just need a few more days to cook,” the Wildlight team shared in their patch notes.

The studio first hinted at the patch’s development on Tuesday. Many of the developers, who previously worked at Respawn, are applying lessons learned from launching Apex Legends to ensure Highguard avoids similar post-launch pitfalls.

Here are the full patch notes for Highguard version 1.0.4:

Note: To expedite the release of these changes, some menu options are currently only available in English. Proper localization for other languages will be included in a future update.

Toggling into ADS and then pressing Sprint (shift on PC, left stick on controller) will swap your scope, which can be disorienting for controller users. PC players are advised to rebind the scope swap if using Toggle ADS. The team is looking into adding this feature for console players who currently can’t rebind buttons, but it will require more time.

Players can now toggle the following features on or off, regardless of other quality settings:

Motion Blur and Depth of Field require further testing to ensure safe disabling. Expect these options to be available soon.

This patch also fixes crashes that could occur in specific scenarios, along with resolving various bugs related to online user presence and matchmaking.
