Highguard Website Goes Dark as Players Anticipate Trouble
Just a few weeks post-launch and less than three months after its debut at the Game Awards, Highguard is still hanging in there. However, its official website has unexpectedly gone dark, fueling speculation that the game might be on its last legs.
The raid shooter made its grand entrance as the final reveal at the 2025 Game Awards in December, but the reception was far from what was hoped for. Players quickly labeled it as generic, questioning the need for yet another free-to-play online shooter. This backlash was followed by a silence from the developers, allowing content creators to fill the gap with a flood of negative commentary and rampant speculation. When Highguard finally launched in January, it initially attracted over 90,000 concurrent players on Steam, but the numbers plummeted within 48 hours. Subsequent updates and the introduction of a 5v5 mode failed to draw players back. Shortly after, layoffs struck Wildlight Entertainment, and now the game’s website is down, leaving many to wonder if this is the end.
As noted by Rebs Gaming and others, the official PlayHighguard.com site has been replaced with a static message stating, “This site is currently unavailable,” along with an email contact for inquiries. Efforts to reach Wildlight for comment are underway.
