The original Hollow Knight’s Switch 2 Edition has just received a rating from PEGI, and fans are eagerly hoping for a surprise drop ahead of today’s Nintendo Direct Partner Showcase.
While PEGI’s rating may not seem groundbreaking—it does caution about bug-like creatures that could be unsettling for younger players, especially when smaller bugs emerge from a larger one upon defeat—developer Team Cherry has already confirmed they are working on an updated version alongside Silksong’s first expansion.
What stands out, however, is that PEGI has listed a release date of February 5, 2026, for Hollow Knight’s Switch 2 version. Coincidentally, that’s today, the day of the upcoming Nintendo Direct focused primarily on third-party and partner games. This has led some fans to believe they might see the new version of the beloved Metroidvania very soon.
“Well, that’s one game for the showcase today,” a fan commented on Reddit. “No way PEGI spoiled it. I don’t remember that happening with most other shadow drops,” another added. A third simply stated, “Hot dayum I’m in.”
Team Cherry mentioned that this new edition, which will be free for all current owners, will feature higher framerates, improved resolutions, and “many additional graphical effects.” Silksong showcased some impressive Joy-Con rumblings, and fans are hoping those make their way into this version as well.
The Nintendo Partner Direct is set to air later today at 6am PT | 9am ET | 2pm GMT and will last for “roughly 30 minutes.”
Here are the best games like Hollow Knight to dive into after Silksong.
