Hollow Knight: Silksong to Receive Free Nautical Expansion

Just days after clinching the title of Best Action Adventure Game at the 2025 awards, Team Cherry, the minds behind Hollow Knight: Silksong, have announced an exciting new expansion on the horizon. Titled Sea of Sorrow, this nautical-themed addition is set to launch in 2026 and will be free for all players. While a brief teaser trailer has been shared, details remain scarce, though it promises new areas, bosses, tools, and more. The trailer hints that players will embark on adventures “across and beneath the salt-stricken seas” when Sea of Sorrow drops next year.

From the snippets shown, it appears that the expansion may take place in Pharloom Bay, a coastal region hinted at in Silksong’s reveal trailer but ultimately left out of the final game. One particular image in the teaser closely resembles The Lab, a location within Pharloom Bay that was featured in early concept art and maps, as noted in the Hollow Knight Wiki. Team Cherry has yet to specify a release date within 2026, and the comments on the teaser video are filled with playful speculation about the indie studio potentially taking seven years to finish it, turning it into a standalone title. As for updates during development, the studio has stated they will share more information on Sea of Sorrow “shortly before” its release.
