“Horizon Clone ‘Light of Motiram’ Pulled from Steam and Epic Games Following Tencent and Sony Settlement”

Sony and Tencent have wrapped up their legal dispute over Light of Motiram, which was accused of being a “slavish clone” of Horizon, a franchise developed by Sony. The two companies have settled out of court, leading to the game’s removal from both Steam and the Epic Games Store.

In July, Sony initiated legal action to prevent the release of Light of Motiram, an open-world adventure game featuring a female lead navigating a post-apocalyptic world filled with biomechanical creatures. Sony claimed that the game bore a striking resemblance to its popular Horizon series, asserting copyright infringement.

Tencent sought to have the case dismissed, arguing that “fame does not create a trademark” and that Sony was attempting to monopolize common concepts in gaming. Although discussions between the two companies regarding a potential collaboration related to Horizon fell through, they have now reached a resolution.

Recent court documents indicate that Sony has dropped its claims, and the lawsuit has been “dismissed with prejudice,” meaning it cannot be reopened in the future. A Tencent representative confirmed that an agreement has been established.

“SIE and Tencent are pleased to have reached a confidential resolution and will have no further public comment on this matter,” stated Sean Durkin, head of communications for Tencent Americas. “SIE and Tencent look forward to working together in the future.”

As a result of the settlement, Light of Motiram has been taken down from Steam and the Epic Games Store. The future of the project remains uncertain, as its official website and social media channels are still active but have not been updated since the legal proceedings began.

In related news, eight years after the release of Horizon Zero Dawn, developer Guerrilla Games has revealed that they “always thought about it as a multiplayer game,” following the announcement of a Horizon MMORPG.
