“Hytale’s Journey: Hypixel Founder Reflects on Buying Back the Game After Its Struggles”
One week after its early access debut, Hypixel founder Simon Collins-Laflamme is reflecting on the journey that brought Hytale to this point, and he believes it was absolutely worth it.
The game’s lengthy development saga has become legendary. Over the past decade, Hytale has experienced a sale to Riot Games, a complete development reboot, a cancellation, and ultimately a revival when Collins-Laflamme reacquired the rights from Riot. Despite facing expected challenges along the way, this Minecraft-inspired RPG has made a significant impact, already fostering a vibrant modding community.
In a recent Twitter post, Collins-Laflamme shared his thoughts after the first week of early access, stating, “It’s now been 7 days since early access launch and I can confidently say that I have no regrets saving Hytale; it’s been the most challenging but rewarding experience of my life.” He expressed gratitude for the incredible support from fans and acknowledged the rebuilt Hytale team for their trust in him to bring the project to completion in just a few months. He noted, “I haven’t been involved with Hytale development for many years, and coming back was a big unknown and risk for me and my family. I fully trusted the people, and it just worked. Amazing team, every single one made a big difference.”
While Hytale is still in early access and has a journey ahead before its full launch, the surprisingly smooth rollout suggests that Hypixel is on track to deliver a game that fans will find worth the wait.
