Hytale’s Latest Update Introduces Necromancy as Developers Tackle Multiple Updates Simultaneously
Hytale has only been in early access for about 11 days, but the development team is cranking out patches and updates at an impressive pace, showing no signs of slowing down. Just today, they rolled out their second update since launch, introducing necromancy and a wealth of customization options.
The latest patch notes reveal a variety of new avatar customization features, including masks, hairstyles, and a toggle that lets players choose whether their helmet or headpiece is visible.
Additionally, there are numerous smaller tweaks across the game: polar bears have received buffs, and missing dinosaur sounds have been restored. For a deeper dive into all the changes, checking out the full patch notes is a must.
The standout feature of this update is undoubtedly necromancy. A new item called the grimoire can now drop from large Praetorian Skeletons, enabling players to “raise skeletal minions from nearby bone piles.”
Hytale’s lead, Simon Collins-Laflamme, mentioned that necromancy is “not related to the future magic system we will be working on in a future update.” He also noted that the undead minions summoned might be a “bit janky,” but he encourages players to embrace the experimental nature of it all, stating, “That’s how Hytale was born, just a bunch of devs having a great time!”
Collins-Laflamme further explained that “production is ramping up as we work on several updates in parallel, and we will put Update 3 into pre-release next week. We will give a bit more time in pre-release to let modders and servers adapt this time around. This one should be a bit smaller, as we are trying to offset the pre-release and release schedule to be more predictable. We will share more details next week!” Clearly, the team is committed to keeping the momentum going.
In a light-hearted moment, the creative lead of Minecraft played Hytale and remarked, “I’d rather just play Minecraft,” to which Hytale’s lead responded, “he is probably right to feel this way.”
