I’m taking over at The Verge for six weeks—feel free to ask me anything!
Hey there, fellow gamers and tech enthusiasts!
I’m David, your go-to tech reporter and cohost of the Waveform Podcast. Today at 11AM PT / 2PM ET, I’ll be hosting a subscriber-only AMA. For the next six weeks, I’ll be stepping in for the well-known senior reviewer Allison Johnson, diving into the latest releases from Apple, Google, Samsung, and more. You might have caught some of my previous work, including camera reviews and coverage of the Switch 2 launch event, as well as cohosting episodes of a popular tech podcast.
I’ve been in the tech scene since 2007, when I witnessed the first iPhone reveal at MacWorld during a school trip. The following year, I jumped on the Android train. Back in high school, I even got paid by Microsoft to publish one of my Android apps on the Windows Phone store—though we all know how that turned out. I left my engineering role at Intel to lead reviews at Android Authority from 2016 to 2021, and I also worked with Marques Brownlee, contributing to The Studio Channel for several years.
My expertise spans computational and analog photography, protocols, emoji, and linguistics. I’m always keen to explore the gap between what companies claim to offer and how users actually experience that tech. Most importantly, I’m passionate about how technology integrates into our lives, for better or worse. Seriously, can we bring back ambient computing?
If you have any questions, feel free to ask—I’m here to help!
