Indiana Jones is set for a new adventure in 2026 with “Sword of Pandemonium.”

The Lucasfilm Publishing panel at San Diego Comic-Con was packed with exciting announcements about upcoming Star Wars projects, but it also brought a surprise: Indiana Jones is making his return to Marvel Comics with a new series after more than thirty years.

During the July 24 panel, Marvel Comics editor-in-chief C.B. Cebulski unveiled Indiana Jones and the Sword of Pandemonium. This limited five-issue series will be crafted by the talented Jason Aaron, a multi-Eisner Award winner known for his groundbreaking Thor saga that introduced Gorr the God Butcher and featured Jane Foster as the new Thor. Aaron’s impressive portfolio also includes notable runs in Star Wars comics, Wolverine and the X-Men, and the acclaimed Southern Bastards. The artwork will be handled by Aaron Kuder, whose illustrations have graced titles like Action Comics, Daredevil, and The Fantastic Four.

Marvel hinted that this series will launch a fresh era of comic book adventures for Indy, with the potential for more stories if the initial sales are strong. Here’s a glimpse of what to expect from the limited series:

Set after the events of Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark, the story sees Indy facing off against his most infamous foes, including the shocking return of a long-time adversary. They are on the hunt for a terrifying new source of power that has fallen into the hands of his former ally, Marion Ravenwood. Indy must embark on a globe-trotting quest for a biblical weapon, putting his archaeological expertise and skepticism of the supernatural to the ultimate test!

Marvel also confirmed that this new chapter in Indiana Jones comics will take place alongside the original films, at least for Sword of Pandemonium. An intriguing detail in the synopsis is the mention of Marion Ravenwood as Indy’s former companion, hinting at a potentially strained relationship despite their amicable parting in Raiders of the Lost Ark. Marvel previously published The Further Adventures of Indiana Jones in the 1980s, which also aligned with the timeline of the original films, but it remains unclear if Sword of Pandemonium will consider that series as part of its canon.

Indiana Jones and the Sword of Pandemonium is set to hit shelves this December.
